The idea for Max Mogulby came to me after years of taking notes, people watching, and enduring/enjoying many art fairs, gallery shows, comic and anime conventions, and worked in places from small art studios, to freelance, to massive design houses.
Max Mogulby is not really based on me, he’s more of an amalgamation of common sense ideologies…, maybe even a personification of observation, or that little voice in the back of our heads that pops up when you simply have to bow to the absurdities in life. Especially those that anyone who travels or sets up to ply one’s trade and opens themselves up to the masses for viewing and judgement.
I know some people are loathe to believe that much of what I will write and illustrate in the coming months in this strip is true, but each one is based on real interactions and moments that I wrote down. It’s not always rosey, it’s not always perfect, and the life of essentially what is a traveling salesman, is just difficult. But the end results, beyond the peppy updates, and sheen of positivity and sometimes forced communal love, is that there is a true and real real capacity for the art community and how it functions at large. Life without art, would be bland and tiresome, it would be rife with blank walls, blank minds, and nothing to challenge our sensibilities.
Just a short entry, so that way I can introduce you to Max Mogulby. Until next time, I’m Mario, the Artisan Rogue.
